Laparoscopy is being explored as an option for surgically treating uterine cancer and is sometimes used when taking biopsies. malignant growth: A growth of cancerous cells, also called a tumor. menopause: The process during which a woman's body changes and her menstrual cycle ceases. When this occurs later than normal, a woman might be at an increased risk for developing uterine cancer. metastasis: The process in which cancer cells migrate and spread from their original growth sites to new tissues, usually through the bloodstream or lymph system. obesity: Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 39.9, while morbid obesity is defined as a BMI of 40 or higher. Obesity, especially morbid obesity, may increase the risk of developing uterine cancer. oral contraceptives: A type of drug used to prevent pregnancy. These drugs may actually decrease the risk of uterine cancer. ovaries: The part of the female reproductive system that stores eggs. ovulation: The process by which an egg is released from an ovary.
